Attended solat Jummat as per normal today n as per regular practice in IIUM, d language used by d khatib was multilingual...it can be any combination of Arabic, English n Malay [n Mandarin as well when a group of imams from China attended a short course here some time back]. Anyway, in today's 1st khutbah...it was in Arabic. Interestingly few words caught my attention intermingling with d Arabic...including Parameswara, RTM n Tunku Abd. Rahman if I am not mistaken. Being not able to understand Arabic, I was waiting for d 2nd khutbah for d translation. However, nothing was mentioned about those words...hhmm
Sometimes I did ponder how rugi I am of not being able to understand n converse in Arabic while I am in d middle of d vast resources that I can tap if I want to. I envy d students as well...at least they gained some Arabic...definitely better than me kott.
Speaking of multilingual khutbah, I attended solat Jumaat in Masjid Regent Park in London once in 1990 n d khatib was delivering his sermon in Arabic...n quite long too. Suddenly one of d makmum raised his hand as if wanting to ask a question...macam Q&A session la pulak. D khatib stopped...n d makmum asked...when r u going to translate all of what u said...n d khatib replied....soon, in d 2nd khutbah. Kes macam ni pun adaaa!
